August 10, 2023: Accelerated Technology Laboratories, Inc. (ATL), a leader in Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS), continues the 2023 LIMS Webcast Series on Wednesday, September 13, with LIMS in the Food Industry: Preparing for the New FSMA Laboratory Accreditation Program. In 2011, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration passed the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA), granting new authority over how foods are grown, harvested, and processed. One aspect of FSMA that will soon be implemented is a laboratory accreditation program for food testing laboratories, known as the Laboratory Accreditation for Analyses of Foods (LAAF). This webcast will provide an overview of LAAF and the valuable role a LIMS can play in achieving and maintaining the requirements for accreditation.
What You Will Learn During the Webcast
We will begin with an update on FSMA’s LAAF, including several changes since the LAAF Final Rule was announced in 2021. This includes the addition of seven accreditation bodies (ABs) for LAAF. A representative for one of these ABs, the International Accreditation Service (IAS), will discuss the LAAF accreditation process and how food laboratories should prepare. Many laboratories are preparing now, as they will have six months to become accredited once the FDA announces the implementation timeline for LAAF. In addition, the webcast will cover these topics:
- The role of a LIMS in ensuring food laboratories achieve and maintain LAAF accreditation.
- A review of how ATL’s LIMS solutions are already designed to help food laboratories meet the existing requirements of FSMA.
- The IAS will provide an update on their LAAF accreditation services for food testing laboratories.
